Today we are ecstatic to finally announce our partnership with Brave. It is one of our widest and proudest integrations to date.
We worked alongside Brave to complete what we like to call a full-suite integration that includes both Brave wallet resolution for SNS domains as well as native browser support! The SNS integration is available across the board on all of Brave’s platforms including; desktop, iOS and Android.
If you have not heard yet, Brave is a free and open-source web browser that puts privacy at its forefront. Brave focuses on blocking all advertisements and trackers by default, which makes the browsing experience much more enjoyable and recognizably faster - as said, almost 3 times faster than Google Chrome.
Additionally, Brave serves as many users’ go-to browser for a seamless crypto experience. Apart from its tracker blocking and VPN protection, its built-in crypto wallet and BAT (Brave’s native token) rewards help make blockchain easy.
The SNS integration in Brave Wallet will help enhance the efficiency and safety of transactions. The magic of decentralized domain names resolving to your wallet address makes sending and receiving tokens easier in that (1) they are memorable and (2) reduce the risk of confusion or mistyped addresses.
Users can test the integration by downloading Brave Browser where its wallet is readily available. Either create a new wallet or simply import your seedphrase from one of your Solana wallets.
Then go ahead and type in a .sol
address, if the domain is owned by someone the corresponding public key will show in the wallet. It’s as easy as that.
To learn more about Brave Wallet, visit https://brave.com/wallet. If you’re already a Brave user, you can get started by selecting Brave Wallet from the main menu, or by clicking the “wallet icon” in the navigation bar.
Native browser support of SNS allows users to visit websites by typing their .sol domain name in the URL tab of Brave Browser, just like you would with a .com or .org website. This integration is the first of its kind for SNS domains, particularly because it does not require any gateway services.
It’s great working with partners that promote the use of decentralized websites which embodies a more censorship-resistant future.
To host a website with your .sol domain name users are required to set the record section of their domain. The process is painless and involves two steps. Visit your profile on sns.id, view one of your domains and select “Records”. Under the record section, edit either the URL or IPFS tab and sign the transaction. Voilà! Your domain name is now linked to a website. For a more in-depth guide on how to edit the record section see here.
For general newcomers who would like to purchase a .sol domain, you can have a look at our guide or reach out to any of our 24-hour support services for guidance.
For the Bonfida team, this integration is a proud moment. Seeing reputable projects like Brave Browser integrate the Solana name service and truly showcase its current use cases is profound for the adoption of decentralized domain names. Amongst this, being able to expand the utility of .sol domain names for our current users is a big win.
